OPTIMUM NITEBRITE CYCLE RAIN JACKET (£12.59-£22.59 depending on size) from Amazon
With my trusty Women’s Featherlite (hand-me-down from my son) finally giving up the ghost, I had to decide either not to cycle in the rain or to find something to replace it. I was looking for something that would keep me warm and dry, be breathable AND ALSO fold small enough to go into a pocket or into a cross bar bag. This model had good reviews and was a great price (£12.59 for size S) – it wasn’t available in hi viz for women but quite a lot of my gear is intended for men. I therefore purchased the men’s S (small) which seems fine on me and I would normally wear a 10-12 in women’s clothing.
Having worn the jacket three times now in showers, rain and quite strong winds I have been very pleased with how it feels – lightweight (it has a breathable lining) and warm. It also has three pockets across the back including one with a zip. It doesn’t fold quite as small as my old Featherlite (because of the lining) but would go into a cycle jersey pocket. I roll mine up, pop it into a small stuff sac and attach it under my tool bag with Velcro (large reel of 1 cm wide Velcro avail for approx £5 from Amazon and very useful for all things to do with the bicycle!).
The only drawback I can find is that the sleeve lining will poke out of the arm holes unless you hold it in place when you put the jacket on.
